Wood fence is the traditional privacy fence: a solid board fence, usually six feet tall, built on site rather than dropped in as panels. It costs less up front than vinyl and gives you the natural look. We build board-on-board and shadow box wood fence across Hernando, Pasco and Citrus County.
Wood Privacy Fences Built for Hernando County
Nothing beats the natural look of a wood privacy fence, and it's still the most budget-friendly way to fully close in a backyard in Spring Hill. At Florida Friendly Fencing, we build pressure-treated pine fences in three privacy styles: board-on-board, shadow box, and classic dog-ear privacy. We install throughout Spring Hill, Brooksville, Weeki Wachee, and the rest of Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus counties.
Every wood fence is set by our own crew and backed by our 5-year workmanship warranty. We're a Google Verified contractor, BBB A-rated, and a 2-time Hernando Sun Reader's Choice Silver Winner (2025 & 2026).
Wood Privacy Fence Styles
All three styles use pressure-treated pine pickets on pressure-treated posts and rails. The difference is how the pickets are hung, which changes how private the fence is, how it looks from your neighbor's side, and how it handles Florida wind.
Board-on-Board
Pickets overlap on alternating sides of the rails, so there are no gaps even as the wood dries and shrinks. Full privacy and a clean look from both sides. A popular upgrade for Spring Hill backyards.
Shadow Box
Pickets alternate front and back with a small gap, so it looks the same from both sides and lets the breeze through. Less wind load during Florida storms, with good privacy from most angles.
Standard Dog-Ear Privacy
Pickets on one side of the rails with classic dog-ear tops. The most affordable way to get a full 6’ privacy fence, with the rails showing on one side.
Style renderings are for illustration. Natural wood varies in color, knots, and grain from board to board.
Which Side Faces Out?
A standard wood privacy fence has a finished side (smooth pickets) and a rail side (posts and rails showing, like the photo). Many HOAs and neighbors expect the finished side to face out, toward the street or the neighbor. Some homeowners prefer the finished side facing their own yard.
If you'd rather not choose, go with board-on-board or shadow box. Both look good from either side. We'll check your HOA's rules before we build.
Wood Fences We've Built
Real jobs from our crew: dog-ear privacy, shadow box, gates, and full tear-out-and-replace projects. On replacements we take down and haul away the old fence, so you're left with a clean new line.

Wood or Vinyl?
Wood costs less upfront and has a warm, natural look. It does need care in Florida's humidity: plan on sealing or staining every couple of years to slow weathering. If you'd rather never paint or seal, take a look at our vinyl privacy fences, including mocha walnut, a vinyl with real wood-grain texture. For the full comparison, read our Wood vs. Vinyl Fence guide.
What does a wood fence cost?
We do not publish a price per foot. What moves a wood job:
- Style — board-on-board uses noticeably more boards per foot than a standard side-by-side or shadow box fence.
- Height — and whether you want a cap and trim on top.
- Total footage and corners.
- Gates — how many and how wide, and whether you want a steel frame under a wide drive gate so it does not sag.
- The site — slope, rock, roots, and equipment access.
- HOA rules — some communities restrict wood or dictate which side faces out.
