About this wood fence and gate project
The old wood gates on this St. Petersburg carport had given out. Even with a cable brace, a turnbuckle and a caster wheel under the latch side, they sagged and dragged on the slab. The before photos show what we started with.
We rebuilt them as double gates on black steel frames and hung new pressure-treated pickets on the outside. The steel does the structural work, so the gates stay square and swing freely without a wheel or cable. From the street they look like a clean wood privacy gate; from the carport side you can see the frames that keep them that way.
The gates have heavy-duty hinges, a center latch and a drop rod. If your wood gates drag, sag or need a wheel just to close, a steel frame is the permanent fix.
